The global alcohol industry might not recover until 2024

While news headlines are highlighting that consumers are buying more alcohol from stores to drink at home, that hasn’t been enough to offset the huge gap created by restaurant, bar and sporting venue closures. The global industry isn’t expected to return to 2019 consumption rates for at least another few years. A new report from research firm IWSR Drinks Market Analysis is predicting double-digit declines in 2020 for total global alcohol consumption, which is down from the 0.1% uptick in volume and 3.6% growth in value they saw in 2019.

Consumers resume activities, online grocery shopping ‘past its peak’

According to a new report by Coresight Research, consumers are starting to transition back to pre-pandemic behaviors. Dining in a restaurant jumped into the top four activities that consumers have done in the past two weeks. Additionally, the proportion of respondents who have bought groceries online in the past two weeks declined from 31% last week to 29% this week.
