A s you may have heard, there has been a surge of outside spending targeting Senator Vandana Slatter in the 48th District, which includes Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, and other Eastside communities.

The Koch Brothers, big oil, and other right-wing groups have already poured over $100,000 into this race, attacking Senator Slatter and boosting her opponent. They’re on TV and in mailboxes, spreading misleading messages that not only distort the truth but could harm Democrats up and down the ballot.

These groups go by innocuous-sounding names such as “Citizens for Progress,” but they’re backed by the same wealthy donors fueling Republican attacks on Democrats across our state. They’re not working to support affordable housing, environmental protections, public school funding, or efforts to Trump-proof Washington. Their mission is clear: weaken Democratic majorities and replace community-focused legislators with those aligned with corporate interests.

I’m proud to have Senator Slatter in our caucus. She’s running a grassroots campaign grounded in service and integrity. She’s the only candidate in the race endorsed by Planned Parenthood and Washington Conservation Action, along with firefighters, nurses, teachers, and local Democrats.

With so much at stake in the coming years, we need leaders such as Vandana in Olympia: leaders who will stand firm for our shared values and fight back against the influence of national right-wing donors and the chaos coming from D.C.
