HARKER HEIGHTS, TX – July 30, 2025 – The City of Harker Heights today announced the successful completion of the tree limb and branch debris recovery phase of its post-storm cleanup initiative. Since July 1st, City staff and their dedicated vendor have collected over 1,125 tons of vegetative debris from the hardest-hit areas of the community. With this phase complete, the City and its vendor are no longer collecting storm debris from streets or public rights-of-way. Residents are advised to refrain from placing additional storm debris at the curb and to use the Drop Off Facility on FM 2410. “We are incredibly proud of the swift progress made in responding, assessing then clearing our community of this debris,” said David Mitchell, City Manager. “The sheer volume of debris removed is a testament to the hard work of our crews and the cooperation of our vendor and residents.” While the primary collection is finished, the City is still coordinating with its vendor to address specific areas, including trimming and pruning damaged trees overhanging the lane of travel on Oakridge Boulevard. The cleanup effort now transitions to its final phase: grinding and hauling away the collected debris. Within the next two weeks, Austin Wood Recycling will deploy grinding equipment to the collection site. Residents should continue to exercise caution and be aware of heavy equipment and trucks operating in the area during this time. In other news, the Drop Off and Recycle Center will resume its regular operating hours starting next week. The center's normal hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, closed on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. The City extends its sincere gratitude to all citizens for their patience and understanding throughout the cleanup process. Your cooperation was instrumental in the efficient and effective recovery efforts.
