Shameful. Just shameful…

Team, Republicans are conspiring right now to steal the 2026 midterm elections.

They know how unpopular their agenda is, especially after passing a budget bill that will hurt millions of families. So Donald Trump has demanded that Texas Republicans call a special session to design a further gerrymandered map — in the hopes that it could net them four or five seats next fall.

I’ll be frank: If the GOP is able to remain in power despite the will of the people, it will be an outrageous violation of our democracy.

Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are afraid of voters who are rightfully furious with their far-right agenda. Instead of changing the way they govern, they’re deciding to cheat instead — manipulating district lines to cling to illegitimate power. And that's not democracy. That’s a return to the darkest chapters of Jim Crow-era voter suppression.

At the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, we’re working tirelessly in Texas and around the country alongside Fair Fight to end gerrymandering by electing fair maps champions, advancing redistricting reform, and growing a grassroots movement for free and fair elections.

This is a fight we’re built to win.

Politicians shouldn’t choose their voters — voters should choose their representatives. Split a donation between the NDRC and Fair Fight to defend democracy against Republicans’ coordinated, anti-democracy efforts in Texas and around the country>> [[link removed]]

One of the most shameful parts about this is that Governor Greg Abbott announced that he added mid-decade redistricting to the agenda on July 9th — just two days after deadly flooding devastated parts of the state, in the middle of recovery efforts and amidst communities searching for loved ones.

Folks, it’s moments like these that this batch of Republicans are showing their true colors. Communities in Texas needed their governor to lead in a moment of tragedy and crisis. Instead, he prioritized a partisan scheme to cling to unearned power.

Keep in mind: The current map is already being challenged by voters because it violates the Voting Rights Act with a clear-cut racial gerrymander. Now, the state wants to double down on this illegal map — seizing an opportunity to manipulate maps even further in a blatant power grab simply because they cannot win fairly. And now, they could manufacture power for themselves for years to come in the upcoming special session in Texas, coming up in a matter of days.

We, the American people, still control our fate — and with the stakes so high, we cannot allow ourselves to be resigned or tired. Split a contribution today between the NDRC and Fair Fight — and let’s fight back together with everything we’ve got.

In service,

Eric H. Holder, Jr.
82nd Attorney General of the United States
