Friend,

Since we last wrote to you, the situation in the Gaza Strip has grown far more dire. Food consumption, acute malnutrition and starvation-related deaths are the three famine indicators, and as of today, two out of the three are already in place. Food consumption has plummeted, and malnutrition has risen to unprecedented rates, sending a grave warning of what’s to come for children and families.

As of July 2025, more than 320,000 children — Gaza's entire under-5 population — are at risk of acute malnutrition, with thousands suffering from severe acute malnutrition, the deadliest form of undernutrition.

Data shows that more than one in three people (39 percent) are now going days at a time without eating. Over 500,000 people — nearly a quarter of Gaza’s population — are enduring famine-like conditions.

With the collapse of essential nutrition services, babies in Gaza are born into a world without access to safe water, breastmilk substitutes and therapeutic feeding.

Despite the partial reopening of crossings, humanitarian aid entering Gaza is barely a trickle of what a population of over 2 million people needs every month. UNICEF and partners have been successful in delivering nutrition products, water treatment supplies and vaccines, but in order to cover basic humanitarian needs, more than 62,000 tons of lifesaving aid are required every month. “We need immediate, safe and unhindered humanitarian access across Gaza to scale up the delivery of lifesaving food, nutrition, water and medicine.” -UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.

UNICEF is calling for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded access to deliver humanitarian aid to a population on the brink of an avoidable famine.

Children in Gaza need your support to get through another day of unimaginable hardship.
