APHA is the leading voice and advocate for improving the public’s health, and
an active participant in conversations impacting the health of all Americans.
We work with journalists covering the nation’s health and telling the stories
of Americans looking to live healthy lives and public health workers on the frontlines of caring for all.
The following are some of the recent media pieces that Dr. Georges Benjamin, APHA's
executive director, participated in:
|
-
APHA’s Dr. Georges Benjamin joined Senator Bernie Sanders
for an insightful discussion on where
we go from here to improve the public’s health, given the massive cuts to health care in Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill.
-
APHA, alongside several leading organizations, sued RFK Jr. to roll back COVID-19
vaccine recommendation changes. The lawsuit was covered in leading media outlets,
including The New York Times, The Washington Post, NBC News
and Fierce Healthcare.
|
Public health is under
threat from program cuts, misinformation and attacks on science — putting decades
of progress at risk.
At APHA, we’re speaking out, filing lawsuits and taking action to defend evidence-based
policies and protect the systems that keep people healthy. But we can’t do it
alone. |
Legislative & Legal Actions
-
APHA joined American
Academy of Pediatrics and others in filing suit against Robert F.
Kennedy, Jr.
in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts
to defend vaccine policy, and to put an end to the Secretary’s assault on science,
public health and evidence-based medicine.
-
Our other lawsuits against the administration continue.
-
APHA, along with 67 leading deans and scholars in public health and health law,
filed an amicus brief
in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in Monte Rose Jr., et al. v.
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., et al. The brief urges the court to affirm a lower court
ruling that the federal government violated the law by allowing Indiana to continue
to restrict Medicaid eligibility and coverage of services.
-
We're calling
on people to use our Action Alert
to Tell EPA not to roll back critical rules to protect the public from power plant pollution.
-
As your federal representatives return home, use our Speak for Health resources
to tell them to support public health.
We'll share more guidance shortly.
