John,
After nearly two years of Israel carpet-bombing and starving Palestinians, the mainstream media and Democratic establishment are finally paying attention and expressing concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It’s about damn time.
But we won’t forget that just two weeks ago, some of the very same Democrats who are now issuing concerned statements were shaking hands and taking pictures with war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu.
While we welcome everyone on the right side of history in the fight for peace and justice in Palestine, it’s too little too late for the tens of thousands of Palestinians already killed by Israeli forces and those in the final stages of malnutrition.
If Democrats suddenly speaking up about Gaza really want to start saving lives, they need to utilize their power and take action NOW to stop more Palestinians from being murdered.
As Justice Democrats’ Rep. Rashida Tlaib pointed out, “Many of my colleagues are expressing in words to me about the starvation, the forced starvation of the people in Gaza and Palestinians there, but they're lacking action, their votes don’t meet up with their words. It needs to stop. They have the leverage.”
She’s right: they do have leverage, and it’s time for them to use it.
The United States has continued to provide BILLIONS of dollars in weapons to Israel throughout its ongoing genocide against Palestinians. Our tax dollars have aided and abetted their war crimes.
We need to make it loud and clear to our leaders in Washington that we demand they stop funding genocide and force Israel to end the blockade and allow the free flow of food, water, and medical supplies into Gaza to stop this full-blown, man-made famine.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
