Amount the law firm Keller Postman billed the Texas attorney general’s office for its work on a lawsuit alleging Meta’s facial recognition software violated Texans’ privacy. Meta called the lawsuit meritless but settled the case for $1.4 billion in the summer of 2024. 

An investigation by The Texas Tribune and ProPublica found that in the past five years, Texas attorney general Ken Paxton has grown increasingly reliant on pricey private lawyers to argue cases on behalf of the state, rather than the hundreds of attorneys who work within his office. Keller Postman did not respond to a request for comment. Paxton declined interview requests for the story but has publicly defended the practice of hiring outside law firms.
