**THE FORUM DAILY**Children in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) custody are being held in “unsafe and unsanitary” conditions according to a court filing, reports Sandy West of CBS News [link removed].

Lawyers representing immigrant children gathered testimonies from kids and families held in what they described as 'prison-like' conditions across the country arguing the situation violates the Flores agreement. The 1997 Flores agreement sets minimum standards for conditions and oversight of facilities holding immigrant children.

The administration has asked a district court to overturn the agreement. A judge is expected to issue a ruling following the hearing scheduled for August 8, West notes.

Separately, many Haitians under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) fear for their lives as the Trump administration plans to end their legal protections, report Nicquel Terry Ellis, and Eva McKend of CNN [link removed].

“The risk of going back is practically death,” said Guerline Jozef, executive director of the Haitian Bridge Alliance.

Meanwhile, amid the immigration crackdown, the entrepreneurial spirit of Utah’s refugees and immigrants persists, reports Tim Vandenack of KSL News [link removed].

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) of Salt Lake City hosted 27 immigrant and refugee competitors for this year’s annual business pitch competition. Exancia Midy, who runs a Haitian food truck won first place, followed by an Ethiopian contestant creating a mobile farmer’s market and a Ukrainian competitor starting a tourism business.

“Refugees are incredibly entrepreneurial,” said Danny Beus, executive director of the IRC in Salt Lake City. “Studies show that they're more likely to own a small business than the average American.”
