Gavin Newsom wants to be President so badly, he’s willing to waste $200 million of taxpayer money on a special election in California—just to tilt the playing field further in Democrats’ favor.
Newsom is threatening to override California’s independent redistricting commission through a special election and allow California’s legislature to gerrymander our congressional districts. His ploy would overturn the 2010 Voters First Act, which gave the nonpartisan redistricting commission sole authority over drawing district lines. That measure passed by 20 points.
Let’s be clear: California’s congressional map is already rigged for Democrats. Republicans hold only 9 of 52 seats, despite winning 38% of the statewide vote. Newsom plan would eliminate even more GOP seats.
