Americans rely on affordable, abundant and reliable energy, whether they need gas for their car to get to work, electricity to cool their homes, or diesel to fuel their trucks and tractors.
However, for too long, America has not been a leader in energy, and the federal government has stood in the way of progress. Unnecessary red tape has stalled energy projects and failed to provide certainty to American energy companies.
We needed to end Washington’s war on energy producers and put the American people first again. President Trump and House Republicans have done so by enacting the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which unleashes American energy dominance . This will result in lower prices for American families and small businesses, more jobs here in the United States, and less dependence on other countries for energy or critical minerals.
The people we represent may be separated by over 400 miles, but the ethanol produced in Iowa fuels the cars made in Michigan. This shared connection underscores what’s at stake if we did not pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Now, we have the opportunity to produce cheaper, cleaner, and more efficient energy to fuel our own – Made-in-America – cars.
Do you want to pay less at the pump and for an energy source that is better for the environment? Then this bill is for you. For years, we have been importing energy and critical minerals from other countries. Countries that often have worse worker safety conditions and fewer environmental protections. Countries that don’t even like us!
At any moment, they could even cut off our supply chains, leaving us vulnerable without the resources necessary to build or maintain the products we all use every day. Consider the appliances you use or the car you drive.
But there is a solution. Your phone, refrigerator, tractor, and car all require chips made with critical minerals that are available right here in the United States. We need the capability to access those resources, which is another key policy win in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. It supports domestic mining for critical minerals made right here in the United States.
Energy security is national security, and this is just another key reason why we needed to quickly enact this law. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act also resumes onshore and offshore oil and gas lease sales to help increase energy production and lower costs. We have both been focused on delivering solutions to meet growing energy needs.
These common-sense provisions, which are now law, will result in more American jobs, less dependence on countries that hate us, and lower energy prices. The compound effect will strengthen rural America, local economies, and the energy infrastructure of our towns and communities. All of these are necessary to compete in an ever-changing world.
The solutions encourage economic growth without compromising the values that enable America to lead in innovation or cede authority to bureaucrats in Washington, D.C.
The bottom line is that the One Big Beautiful Bill puts America first. It puts us back in the driver’s seat, allowing us to be a leader in the energy sector. It reclaims our energy independence so that we can be in charge again—not other countries. It backs our farmers, producers, cooperatives, autoworkers, and families.
We both proudly supported the passage in the U.S. House of Representatives for this reason and many more. We truly believe the One Big Beautiful Bill Act delivers solutions for all Americans. It’s, in essence, a promise made, promise kept. We remained committed to its passage and now that it is signed into law by the President, it will start delivering for Iowans, Michiganders, and all of America.
