The New York Times: In the Trump Administration, Watchdogs Are Watching Their Backs

Trump has fired dozens of Inspectors General–you know, those independent watchdogs who keep us safe REGARDLESS of who is in power. And the ones who remain are watching their backs.

This month, I proudly introduced the BEACON Act along with my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate. This crucial bill would create a nonpartisan Inspector General tasked with overseeing the Executive Branch – because no administration should be above the law or immune from scrutiny.

The BEACON Act is about transparency, oversight, and protecting our democracy. At a time when trust in our institutions is under threat, this legislation is an important step forward.
