The MAGA movement didn’t just build a political cult, it built a community. That’s why people who leave MAGA face so much backlash, and why their stories rarely get told. But telling them is exactly what we need to help more Americans escape the grip of extremism.

And yet, mainstream networks, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, and especially FOX, have failed to give this story the national attention it deserves. While Trump’s lies get airtime, truth-tellers like Jason Riddle, a Capitol rioter who renounced MAGA after Trump left him to rot, are ignored. So is Stephania Messina, a former Christian nationalist who now calls MAGA a betrayal of her faith.
MAGA relies on media silence. The fewer people hear these stories, the tighter its grip. Tell the major networks to cover the voices of people leaving MAGA. Shine a light on the truth.
There’s a real danger when only one side of a story gets told. MAGA keeps feeding off resentment and fear because the national media isn’t showing the alternative of redemption, truth, and reconciliation.
People leaving MAGA often feel abandoned. They lose friends, families, even church and homes. Leaving MAGA is giving them something to come home to, but it needs national exposure to reach those still trapped.
Every testimony breaks MAGA’s spell a little more. Every story aired on national television gives someone else the courage to question what they’ve been told. And every act of courage reminds the rest of us: people can change.
The media has a duty. If they can air Trump’s lies, they damn well better air the truth of those who left.
