Dear Friend,

The Trump administration is moving to remove protections for 13 million acres of our public lands in the Western Arctic — a move that would threaten a critical ecosystem so that private corporations can profit.

This is a reckless giveaway of land that belongs to all of us, not just the wealthy few.

Earthjustice has defended this region for years, and we will not stop now. Please make a gift today to support our work and help safeguard these public lands before it’s too late.

Congressional Republicans and the Trump administration are once again putting polluters first—pushing to open the Western Arctic to massive oil and gas development. Their goal: turn this fragile ecosystem into a fossil fuel export hub under the false pretense of an “energy emergency.” But let’s be clear: the oil drilled here would likely be shipped overseas, enriching a select few while destroying lands that belong to all of us.

Earthjustice has defended the Western Arctic for years because it is ecologically rich, culturally significant, and ground zero for climate change. The 13 million acres at risk are an important nesting ground for migratory birds from around the world and offer habitat for caribou and polar bears. These lands are central to Alaska Native communities who rely on them for subsistence.

The Arctic is warming quicker than anywhere else on earth, and as permafrost melts it releases its vast stores of carbon. New oil drilling here would lead to staggering greenhouse gas emissions. Protecting this region is essential not only for preserving biodiversity and Indigenous lifeways, but also for slowing global warming and avoiding the worst impacts of climate change.

When you donate to Earthjustice, you power the legal work that prevents destructive projects like this from destroying irreplaceable landscapes. Americans have overwhelmingly supported protecting this region, and we will continue to work alongside advocates and donors like you to preserve the Western Arctic.

We represent our clients for free, so donors like you power every single one of our victories. Donate today and support our lawsuits to protect our public lands, our communities, and our future.
