Governor Walz Weekly Briefing

Governor Walz Announces Reopening of Stone Arch Bridge

Governor Walz announces the reopening of the Stone Arch Bridge.

On Monday, Governor Walz and Minnesota Department of Transportation Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger announced the reopening of the Stone Arch Bridge to pedestrians and bicyclists, nearly three months ahead of schedule. The bridge was partially closed in 2024 for preservation and rehabilitation work.

“Today we celebrate the hard work and collaboration of so many who finished this project months ahead of schedule,” said Governor Walz. “The Stone Arch Bridge isn’t just one of the most visited park destinations in Minnesota – it connects people, businesses, and neighborhoods. I personally can’t wait for my first run across it. Welcome back to the Stone Arch!”

Governor Walz Invites Canadian Travelers to Minnesota

Governor Walz is extending an invitation to Canadians to visit Minnesota, reaffirming the state’s long-standing relationship with Canada. Despite Canadian travel to the U.S. facing headwinds in recent months, Minnesota continues to be a top destination for Canadian tourists.

“More than half of Minnesota’s international visitors come from Canada,” said Governor Walz. “We value that connection and the many ways our cultures overlap — from hockey to fishing, and from buffalo plaid to a bold winter spirit. We want our Canadian neighbors know they’re not just welcome here — they’re encouraged to visit and continue our long friendship.”

ICYMI: Governor Walz Announces $33 Million for Small Businesses

Governor Walz holds roundtable with small business owners

Last week, Governor Walz announced $33 million for 225 new and developing small businesses. The Governor was joined by small business owners representing manufacturing, health care, hospitality, and clean technology who have been able to start or expand their businesses thanks to partnership with the state through the Department of Employment and Economic Development.

“Growing up in a small town, I saw how small businesses can make main streets come alive,” said Governor Walz. “Small businesses are job creators that fuel innovation and strengthen our communities. Making Minnesota the best state to live means it’s a place where entrepreneurs can put their ideas into action to support a diverse and thriving economy. With this funding, we’ll partner with hundreds of new small businesses to ensure they have the funding they need to get started.”
