Bus improvements
*Nottingham’s public transport set to benefit from £3.2million funding*

More than £3m of external funding will be invested into Nottingham’s public transport network in 2025/26 thanks to the new East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).

*This investment over the next year will:*

* Enhance, protect and support bus services that are at risk of withdrawal, to maintain attractive levels of service frequency, ensuring wider service coverage to help people access work, study and leisure.
* Complement £4.9m of infrastructure investment in the roll-out of additional electric buses [ [link removed] ] on the network, which will make a significant contribution to Nottingham’s ambition to be Carbon Neutral by 2028, improve the passenger experience and reduce air and noise pollution in our local neighbourhoods.
* Invest in a new Travel Safe Partnership, supported by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, which will see Transport Safety Officers deployed to the bus and tram network to support safer journeys for all.
* Support the operational costs of key pieces of public transport infrastructure including the city’s bus stations, park and ride sites, bus stops, real time public transport information and smart ticketing.

Green Heart disruption map
Temporary change to Green Heart path during NHS building works

Preparation for work on a new NHS diagnostic centre in Nottingham will see temporary changes to the way people walk through the Green Heart and into Lister Gate (which will affect you if you tend to walk past Nottingham Central Library and up towards the Old Market Square through the Green Heart).

It was announced on Tuesday (22 July) that formal agreement has been reached between the NHS and landowners Homes England [ [link removed] ] for construction work to begin on a new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).

There will be two key changes for the public to be aware of during this time for safety and to protect the Green Heart:

* One of the walkways through the Green Heart will close and pedestrians will need to divert to the left and centre (blue section seen on map)
* A controlled crossing point will be established between the top of the Green Heart and the foot of Lister Gate. The street will be closed for short periods each day to allow plant vehicles and deliveries to be moved between the contractors’ compound and the construction site (yellow section on map)

Traffic lights
Traffic lights upgraded to LEDs across Nottingham

Thanks to £631,000 from the Government’s Department for Transport, we have started to upgrade Nottingham’s traffic signals to energy-efficient LED lights instead of halogen lamps. The council will use the funding to boost reliability and reduce faults to provide a safer experience for motorists as well as longer-term maintenance savings.

So far 40 sites have been upgraded across the city. By next spring, approximately 60 junctions and 70 crossings will be kitted out with new equipment across all areas of the city. Over 50% of traffic lights are already upgraded to the new LED style.
