Dear Friends,

We’re not out of the woods yet! It’s three steps forward and two steps back when it comes to covid-19 and its consequences for us all.

So, despite some easing, to quote Aristotle: “One swallow does not a summer make.”

However, if you think that Born Free has been anything other than flat out during lockdown…

It’s been an opportunity for us to think really big and to imagine what resetting the world might look like – to use the phrase created by Richard Curtis: “We want to build back better”. The challenge for us all is to make sure that words are turned into deeds.

Once more, hats off to Angela and Martin Humphery
[link removed] who are still walking every day fundraising for our campaign to close wildlife markets
[link removed] (and thanks to Prospect Capital for their support).

A huge thumbs up to the fantastic George Logan whose Kickstarter campaign for Lion: Pride Before he Fall
[link removed] (set to be the best book about lions since Born Free), has just launched. I am ordering my books now!

The innovation of our award winning marketing and fundraising team; the tenacity of our welfare teams, providing daily care for rescued animals in extremely challenging conditions; the determination of our conservation teams working to secure the future survival of animals where they belong – in the wild; the creativity of our education team preparing the next generation to take on the compassionate stewardship of our natural world; and the support provided to all our programmatic work by our financial, operational, sustainability and compliance teams.

We are determined, with your support, to come out of this better, stronger and as true as we ever were to the principle on which we are founded: that every individual matters.

I know we are faced with so many priorities right now but if you are able to help Born Free weather the storm, then your generosity and support would be deeply appreciated.
