Dear JOHN,

After a busy few days in Washington, I headed back home to Rochester early this week as Republican turmoil once again paralyzed the important work we’re doing in the House.

I’m fighting alongside my democratic colleagues to hold them accountable and move us back toward a government that works for our communities.

How We're Fighting Back

Just over a year ago, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a disastrous ruling giving presidents absolute immunity from criminal prosecution. This decision undermines the very foundation of our constitutional government. The President of the United States should be equal in the eyes of the law with every other American, our nation relies on that principle.

This week, I reintroduced my constitutional amendment to make sure presidents are held accountable under the law. It would reverse this disastrous decision and restore the constitutional understanding of immunity that served our nation well for nearly two-and-a-half centuries.

Protecting the Fundamental Right to Vote

This week, under the guise of ‘election security,’ my Republican colleagues called a Committee on House Administration hearing to create an illusion of election oversight while they make the case to purge eligible voters from voter lists.

States controlled by Republicans have recently engaged in systematic, illegal voter purges. This puts hardworking Americans at risk of being disenfranchised. I’m committed to the fight to expand access to the ballot box and ensure every eligible American’s right to vote is protected.

Honoring the Officers Who Defended the Capitol on January 6th

Speaker Johnson refuses to hang the plaque honoring the officers who defended the Capitol on January 6th, as is required by law. Alongside over one hundred of my democratic colleagues, I’ve posted a replica of the plaque outside my office in Washington.

We won't forget their service.

Protecting New York's Agricultural Economy

Congressman Morelle reintroduces legislation to protect NY farms from the Spotted Lanternfly.

It’s hard to visit the Finger Lakes without enjoying our amazing vineyards and orchards, but they’re under serious threat from the Spotted Lanternfly. This week, I introduced my bipartisan legislation to stop the spread of the invasive pest.

This bill would designate the spotted lanternfly as a high-priority research and extension initiative under the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. The designation will help support research projects that pursue creative solutions as we work to protect New York’s crops from being decimated.
