Content warning: This email discusses violence and harmful practices against women and girls.

The humanitarian crisis in Sudan is escalating, and millions are facing unimaginable violence amidst the turmoil. Sexual violence is being used as a tool of terror, further endangering the lives of Sudan’s women and girls.

This demands our immediate attention and action.

You can provide the necessary support to alleviate the suffering of women and girls in Sudan. Your contribution can help to restore hope in communities ravaged by conflict and hunger, so please donate today.

“At this point, it truly feels like this war is being fought on the bodies of women and girls,” said Huda, a survivor of sexual violence who sought care at a UNFPA-supported facility.

“What’s happening to us is beyond what most people can imagine. So many of us have lost hope in the future.”

Severe funding shortfalls are crippling the humanitarian response in Sudan, forcing the closure of essential health facilities. UNFPA has had to withdraw support from over half of the 93 health facilities, leaving countless women and girls like Huda vulnerable to violence and without critical health services.

“The scale and brutality of violations are beyond anything we’ve previously seen,” explained Dina, a violence specialist in Sudan.

“We have documented numerous cases of women and girls who have survived rape and sexual violence, including adolescent girls and women and girls with disabilities. Many are left coping with unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, and deep psychological trauma.”

This humanitarian emergency is worsened by deepening hunger and displacement.

A dramatic rise in the cost of basic food supplies is pushing millions into starvation. Meanwhile, in El Fasher, conflict has forced over 1,200 individuals to flee in recent days, adding to a total of more than 400,000 displaced since April.

UNFPA continues to advocate for survivors and the trauma-informed care they need. However, we’ve only secured a quarter of the necessary funding for Sudan this year, so we are facing significant gaps in resources that threaten the lives and well-being of millions.

Please make a donation today to power lifesaving efforts in Sudan and beyond. Together, we can provide relief to women, girls, and families who are caught in the crossfire of this humanitarian crisis.
