John —
I was featured in Vanity Fair, and it’s shining a spotlight on our campaign to unseat Republican Senator Joni Ernst. If you haven’t read the article yet, here’s the link [[link removed]] .

This kind of attention is a game-changer, and it’s all thanks to the incredible grassroots energy we’re building across Iowa. My approach to this campaign has been unconventional, and it’s getting national media attention.
Balancing legislative duties with my role as a pitcher for the Sioux City Explorers keeps life interesting. When I’m on the road, I’m calling our amazing donors from team buses and phoning in to last-minute Democratic caucus meetings from the dugout. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I was raised by two teachers in Sioux City, where my father also coached the Morningside University baseball team. I don’t come from money, but my upbringing taught me something much more valuable: How to show up, how to listen, and how to fight.
That’s why Senator Ernst’s dismissive comment about cuts to Medicaid motivated me to run against her. When she told a live audience, "We are all going to die," it sealed the deal for me: Iowans deserve better, and I’m ready to deliver.
Together, we've ousted extremists like white supremacist Steve King, and if we reach enough Iowans, we can do it again.

I don’t have a war chest, just two jobs as a professional baseball player and a State Representative, and a deep belief that Iowa’s future belongs to us — the farmers, teachers, servers, artists, and everyone who keeps our communities ticking.
Thank you for supporting Iowa’s future.
Standing tall for all,
— J.D.
