[link removed] [[link removed]] Dear Friend,
A few weeks ago, I was honored by the League of Women Voters, along with the Grand Junction District Attorney Dan Rubinstein, with the Leader of Democracy Award for defending the rule of law and our work prosecuting former County Clerk Tina Peters for her actions that undermined the integrity of our elections. Thank you to everyone — all 450 of you — who signed a congratulatory card to me for receiving this award.
I was honored to stand with you to promote justice and defend the rule of law. And, like DA Rubinstein, I talked at the event about the importance of doing the right thing — and not being afraid. Even when the President of the United States attacks you personally.
[link removed]? [[link removed]?]As Attorney General and as your next Governor, I will always honor and respect our commitment to the rule of law, as I explained in an earlier blog post. [[link removed]] This principle ensures that, in America, we live under rules that are applied fairly to everyone, regardless of who they are.
For those of us in law enforcement, this commitment to the impartial enforcement of our laws is essential to maintaining trust in government, ensuring basic fairness, and promoting community safety.
The fair administration of justice, where juries determine facts and witnesses who testify under oath are subject to cross examination, remains the best system for uncovering the truth. Recognizing this, our nation’s founders enshrined these critical protections for an independent judiciary and jury system in our Constitution, drawing from their experiences under British rule.
At this critical time, I will steadfastly defend our institutions and the fair and impartial administration of justice.
