Dear John,
Connecticut Dems are not playing defense. We’re making progress. With 93 new laws taking effect this month, our leaders are delivering real solutions to the challenges families face every day. And behind each of these laws is a real person, a real challenge, and now, a solution.
But what exactly does that mean for you?
Lower electric costs: This session, Democrats passed new legislation that will cut the “public benefit” charge from electric bills, saving many households over $200 a year. But they didn’t stop there. It also includes stronger oversight to prevent unjustified rate hikes going forward.
A first of its kind child care endowment: We're investing in a long-term solution so parents don’t have to choose between a paycheck and a safe place for their kids. This endowment will give free child care to those making less than $100,000, create 16,000 new spots, and expand teacher salaries.
Stronger protections for immigrant families: With updates to the TRUST Act, Connecticut is taking a stand against federal overreach. This means law enforcement can now only cooperate with ICE when there is a judicial warrant or in cases involving violent or sexual felonies.
And we’re just getting started. This session also delivered new support for public schools, housing, and maternal healthcare. And while other states push culture wars and division, Connecticut Democrats are delivering real results for the people of our state.
Let’s keep that progress going.
Sincerely,
Sarah Locke
