John,
“The census is supposed to be unbiased, apolitical data,” writes MSNBC, in an article detailing how Project 2025 plans to politicize the census. But how did we get here?
Since retaking office, Trump, his administration, and far-right allies in Congress have launched attacks on our democracy on multiple fronts, including the 2030 Census — the foundation for redistricting.
It can all be traced back to Project 2025, which has an entire chapter dedicated to the Census Bureau. In this far-right playbook, MAGA Republicans explicitly state, “Strong political leadership is needed to increase efficiency and align the Census Bureau’s mission with conservative principles.”
So much for “unbiased” and “apolitical.”
We cannot let Republicans hijack the census for their own political gains. The NDRC is working to protect the census so we have an accurate count and fair representation. Can you make a donation to help power this critical work?
Make no mistake: Project 2025 is already in action. Anti-democracy attacks on the census this year alone include:
-Rescinding an order that affirmed how everyone in the country should be counted.
-Wiping previously publicly available data from the Census Bureau website.
-Suing to stop the 2030 Census from counting all U.S. residents.
-Proposing a citizenship question, which could undercount the population in areas with high rates of immigrants.
It’s clear: Republicans want to use the census to unfairly shift power away from minority communities.
The NDRC is committed to defending the census to ensure an accurate count of our population and demographics — and fair maps. Please make a donation to protect our democracy from GOP attempts to undermine our census.
Thanks so much,
The NDRC Team
