What I’ve Been Up To

Collegeville PD Visit

Thank you to Chief Barnshaw of the Collegeville Borough Police for inviting me to the department last week. I was pleased to see how officers are using Collegeville's new body camera technology, which was funded through a state grant.

Collegeville PD continues to develop strategies that improve community safety and nurture trust between residents and its officers.

Legislative Updates

In light of recent ICE activity in West Norriton township and the concerns I have heard from members of our community, I am working alongside state Representatives Paul Friel, Joe Hohenstein, Rick Krajewski, Chris Pielli, Abigail Salisbury and Greg Scott to promote accountability at all levels of law enforcement. At their core, civil liberties exist to prevent abuses by the government and to protect our rights.

It’s crucial for citizens to be able to confirm that any law enforcement officer they encounter is properly identified, authorized, and credentialed. Our local police departments work tirelessly at establishing relationships within our community, and when there is law enforcement activity in our neighborhoods that is reminiscent of organized, secret groups of enforcers, we must set parameters that promote public safety measures that are in everyone’s best interest.

That includes the best interests of both our neighbors that law enforcement serves and the law enforcement agents themselves. That is the goal of this proposed legislation.

You can read the memo’s full press release here, and the memo itself (the bill language will be drafted soon.)
