Hello John, it's Gov. Janet Mills.

As I'm sure you know, potatoes are blossoming in Maine right now. As the granddaughter of Aroostook County potato farmers, it's always one of my favorite times of the year. That's why I was so happy to attend the annual Potato Blossom Festival with the Maine Democratic Party and Aroostook County Dems!

I love being able to come together with Mainers everywhere and celebrate what makes our state so uniquely wonderful.

From our rich agricultural heritage to our gorgeous coastlines, Maine is a special place that we are so lucky to call home.

Unfortunately, we're facing unprecedented attacks from the federal level right now. Before I tell you more, could you chip in to support the Maine Democrats?

Trump's recent spending bill is kicking millions of people off healthcare and eliminating food assistance for our most vulnerable. He's withholding millions of dollars from public schools, threatening public education, and shutting down clean energy projects that lower energy costs and create jobs.

But here's what I need you to know, John: We are not backing down, and we will not let their intimidation win.

Democracy is never truly lost to us. It is just sometimes hard to see the end of the fight. But I believe in democracy, and I believe in Mainers, and I know we will see it through.

Just look at the work Maine Dems are doing here on the ground. They're organizing support across our state for causes and people who will help move us off the trajectory we're on and towards a better future. A future where all of us have a chance at success, where we preserve what makes Maine special, and we build progress rather than turn back the clock.

Maine Dems are fighting to protect rural hospitals, expand broadband coverage, and make sure every Mainer has the resources they need to succeed, regardless of where they live.

No matter where people live, Maine Dems are meeting folks where they're at — including Aroostook County. Maine Dems stood with me at the festival and are organizing here year-round, because all our voices deserve to be heard, and all our rights and freedoms are worth fighting for.
