After 20 months of conflict, children in Gaza continue to pay the ultimate price for the unprecedented violence afflicting the region, with ongoing hostilities, mass displacement and the collapse of public services wreaking havoc on their lives. In a horrifying reflection of the crisis, between May 27 and July 7, the UN recorded the killings of 798 Palestinian civilians — many of them children — while they were trying to reach food at or near aid distribution sites.

But the children of Gaza aren’t alone in their plight. In less than two years, at least 12.2 million children have reportedly been killed, maimed or displaced in conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) — the equivalent of one child displaced every five seconds and one child killed or maimed every 15 minutes.

Enough is enough. No child should have to worry whether they’ll survive another day.
