SUBJECT: Tell Congress: Sanction Violent Settlers

Friends,

There are heroes still in Israel standing up for our common humanity.

The hostage families protesting for a ceasefire. The peace advocates holding photos of the children killed in Gaza. The activists putting their bodies on the line to protect Palestinians in the West Bank.

And then there are the extremist settlers.

From their illegal outposts to their seats around Netanyahu’s Cabinet table, they are pursuing endless war in Gaza and fomenting chaos in the West Bank, all so they can push Palestinians from their homes and claim the land for “Greater Israel.”

I’m enraged by the needless terror and pain they inflict on our neighbors. By the shame they bring to Israel. I’m enraged because there are thousands of Israeli kids just like mine sent to the front lines of this conflict – sent to defend illegal settlements and fight unwinnable wars. Caught in a cycle of violence that right-wing forces insist on fuelling.

That’s why I’m asking for your help. Our Prime Minister will not hold violent settlers accountable. He relies on them politically. He literally wrote the book on permanent occupation.

But right now, there is legislation before the US Congress designed to provide a measure of justice and deterrence by applying sanctions to violent settlers and those who fund them. It already has support from several prominent Jewish Members of Congress.

Friend: Can you sign J Street’s petition and call your member to voice your support? Together, we have to step up when our leaders refuse to do so.

Last week brought the horrific news that settlers had killed two more young Palestinians – including a Palestinian-American weeks from his 21st birthday. Their families deserve justice and accountability. But I fear that if past is prologue, these grieving families can expect only indifference from the Trump Administration and stonewalling from Netanyahu.

Watching settlement leaders here – and their defenders in the United States – twist themselves to avoid the issue and evade accountability has been grotesque. But at the same time, it’s been inspiring to see a growing number of voices speaking out and pushing back – including Members of Congress and Jewish leaders across the United States.

“It is our Jewish and moral obligation to speak out against these actions and to protect innocent people,” wrote several hundred American Jewish leaders in a recent open letter.

I couldn’t agree more. The death and destruction inflicted by violent and extremist settlers and their quest to push Palestinians from their land are moral stains for Israel and the Jewish people, and it is our duty to take action and push back.

Please take a moment to join our petition calling for Congress to act. We’re stronger when we speak out together »

Thank you, sincerely, for your support.
