Dear John,

Across the country, Right to the City Alliance (RTTC) members are fighting for critical housing justice solutions their communities deeply need and doing so in a political environment that has never been more uncertain. As we continue to build campaigns against the worst actors in our housing system, we wanted to flag a new report that we co-authored with PolicyLink and Popular Democracy in Action, that we believe will be an important tool for the housing justice movement.

The new report, Our Homes, Our Future: Building the Power to Win Rent Control for Stable Communities [[link removed]] is the most comprehensive guide to date for organizers, advocates, and policymakers working to advance and strengthen rent control. The report details how the policy is not only necessary—it’s politically viable, broadly popular, and a key tool for creating more stable, thriving communities . It also exposes the forces standing in the way.

Inside of the report you will find:
* A breakdown of how effective rent control policies are designed and passed
* Legal context to navigate federal, state, and local barriers
* Empirical evidence and polling data for advocates and policymakers
* Case studies from winning campaigns in Colorado ( our very own COHFA ), New York, Washington State and more
* A companion report for elected officials

With new data, historical analysis and case studies, Our Homes, Our Futures intervenes on persistent myths about rent control and affirms what our communities has been saying for decades: the private market, and deregulation alone, will not solve the affordable housing crisis.

As our members dial up the pressure on corporate landlords, anti-tenant politicians, and the banks and hedge funds who see our homes as their financial play things we look forward to putting this toolkit into practice and hope that you find it useful too.

In solidarity,
Kamau, Matt and the RTTC Team
