John,

Let’s not kid ourselves about what Republican lawmakers in Texas are trying to accomplish right now.

They want to steal the midterm elections, at Donald Trump’s urging, by drawing an even more gerrymandered congressional map — which could tilt four or even five House seats in their favor.

That could be more than enough to swing control of the U.S. House, which Republicans only won by three seats in 2024, and could make the difference between Speaker Hakeem Jeffries and Speaker Mike Johnson.

Republicans want to secure illegitimate power because they’re scared to face voters after passing Trump’s horrific, deeply unpopular budget bill, and they are eager to continue advancing his appalling agenda. They know that they cannot win fairly, so they are willing to cheat. But we are not powerless to stop them.

At the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, we fight in Texas and around the country to end gerrymandering by electing fair maps champions, advancing redistricting reform, and growing a grassroots movement for free and fair elections.

People like you make it possible for the NDRC to keep up this vital work of defending our democracy and responding to urgent, fast-moving threats like what we face in Texas. Please make a donation today to fight back against Republicans’ blatant plots to seize unearned power: [[link removed]]

The GOP has run this play before. North Carolina Republicans gerrymandered three House seats in their favor leading up to the 2024 elections, when the GOP went on to win a three-vote majority.

And Texas isn’t the only state where new maps are on the table. Ohio Republicans could steal three more House seats during this year’s redraw.

Make no mistake: If the GOP is able to remain in power despite the will of the people, it will be an outrageous violation of our democracy.

Let’s say that on November 3, 2026, a majority of voters cast their ballots for Democratic House candidates. It’s the culmination of months and months of tireless organizing. It’s a clear sign of opposition to Republican rule. But it isn’t enough. The GOP narrowly holds onto House control anyway, even after losing seats, through pick-ups in Texas and Ohio.

Republicans could manufacture power for themselves for years to come through actions they take this month in Texas. We must fight back.

As the GOP goes all out to embed themselves into permanent minority rule, the NDRC is going all out to stop Republicans from manipulating maps and twisting our democracy in their favor. We’re executing a 10 Year Plan to secure fair maps, but it depends on ongoing support from people like you who are committed to this cause.

John, that's why I’m asking if you can contribute any amount today and help hold the line for free and fair elections, with maps that truly reflect the will of the people: [[link removed]]
