Dear Friend, |
The last remaining undeveloped lands within our national forests provide homes for wildlife, filter drinking water, provide recreational opportunities, and contain fire resistant magnificent old-growth forests that absorb and store carbon, helping us to fight climate change. If we develop these lands with new roads and logging, we will lose all those benefits and worsen the ongoing biodiversity and climate crises. |
And that is what the Trump administration is lining up to do. Following up on promises to ramp up logging — including clear-cutting — across federal forests, the administration has announced plans to obliterate the Roadless Rule, a landmark land-conservation policy that has protected many of the most pristine backcountry areas of our National Forest System against costly and harmful road building and logging since 2001. |
We need you to defend the forest protections we have fought so hard for by telling the administration that you oppose increased roads and logging in our most pristine federal forests, and weakening of environmental protections. |
The roadless rule has protected 58 million acres of our wildest national forest lands from road building, fires, oil and gas drilling, and logging for more than a generation. More than 90% of fires start within a half mile of roads in our forests. The Trump administration now wants to throw these forest protections overboard so the timber industry can make huge money by punching roads into the backcountry and hauling public forests away to the sawmill. These are lands that belong to all Americans, not the timber industry. We will stand for America’s national forests and the wildlife that depend on them. |
Earthjustice has gone to court protecting our forests for years, advocating for the Roadless Rule to protect our wildest forests, opposing harmful forest management plans, and challenging illegal timber sales in the Tongass National Forest, and we won’t stop now. |
Under the Trump administration, our fight to preserve clean water, safeguard public lands, and uphold environmental protections is more critical than ever. We need your voice now to defend our forests from these attacks. |
|
|
Sincerely,
Blaine Miller-McFeeley
