Dear Friend,
Just days ago, Bayou and Lea were discovered at a deserted construction site in Texas, part of a vulnerable litter left behind before the July 4 floods swept through the region. Alone, frightened, and far too young to survive on their own, these tiny siblings were clinging to each other in the chaos—unaware that help was on the way.
Thanks to our generous community, that help came in the form of a warm blanket, gentle hands, and the promise of a new beginning.
Bayou and Lea are two of the many pups who arrived in a second transport to PAWS Chicago this week after a journey from the heart of the Texas flood zone. They’ve gone from fear and uncertainty to wagging tails and hopeful hearts. Our Disaster Relief Team has now welcomed 31 dogs and puppies from Concho Valley PAWS and Austin Pets Alive!, transported to safety from overwhelmed Texas shelters.
It's important to note too that this past Wednesday morning—while rescue vans returned from Waukesha County Airport with our newest Texas arrivals—our team was also pulling 25 animals from Chicago Animal Care & Control, where overcrowding remains critical.
Because of YOU—our incredible fosters, volunteers, donors, and cheerleaders—we didn’t have to choose between helping disaster-stricken pets in Texas and continuing our daily work in Chicago. You made room, you made time, you made it happen.
THANK YOU.
But our work is far from over.

HELP HOMELESS PETS IN NEED ([link removed])
Every donation, every open door, every loving gesture helps turn heartbreak into healing. With your continued support, we’ll keep saying “yes” when animals like Bayou and Lea need us most.
Words can hardly capture the depth of our gratitude. From every rescued pet at PAWS, thank you—for opening your homes, your hearts, and your arms in this time of urgent need. Because of you, frightened animals now sleep soundly, cradled in safety and love. Your kindness ripples outward in ways you may never see, but we feel it in every tail wag, every hopeful glance, and every second chance. We are endlessly grateful for you.
Thank you for being their heroes.
