Governor Walz Announces $33 Million For Small Businesses

________________________________________________________________________


DEED

On Tuesday, Governor Walz announced $33 million for 225 new and developing small businesses. The Governor was joined by small business owners representing manufacturing, health care, hospitality, and clean technology who have been able to start or expand their businesses thanks to partnership with the state through the Department of Employment and Economic Development.

*“Growing up in a small town, I saw how small businesses can make main streets come alive,”* said Governor Walz.* “Small businesses are job creators that fuel innovation and strengthen our communities. Making Minnesota the best state to live means it’s a place where entrepreneurs can put their ideas into action to support a diverse and thriving economy. With this funding, we’ll partner with hundreds of new small businesses to ensure they have the funding they need to get started.”*

Governor Walz Signs Bill to Prevent Suicide on Minneapolis Bridge

On Wednesday, Governor Walz joined advocates of legislation aimed at preventing suicide on a Minneapolis Bridge. In June, Governor Walz signed Chapter 8 House File 14 into law, funding the installation of preventative barriers on the bridge. 

*"I'm always inspired by people who can turn personal tragedy into public change, and I'm grateful to the family of Kayla Rae Gaebel and SAVE for getting this bill across the finish line" *said Governor Walz, *"By funding suicide prevention barriers for the Washington Avenue Bridge, we are going to save lives."*

ICYMI: Governor Walz Announces Minnesota K-9 Unit to Assist in Search and Recovery in Texas Following Flooding

Last Saturday, Governor Walz announced a Minnesota Task Force 1 (MN TF1) K-9 unit is traveling to assist in search and recovery efforts following deadly flooding in central Texas. MN TF1 is one of the state’s two urban search and rescue teams which can assist with structural collapse, heavy rescue, wide-area search, trench rescue, confined space rescue, rope rescue and advanced medical care.

*“In the wake of unprecedented flooding, communities in Texas are dealing with heartbreaking loss and destruction,”* said Governor Walz. *“As search and recovery missions continue, I’m incredibly grateful to our Minnesota Task Force 1 K-9 Unit for stepping up and traveling to assist our neighbors in this time of tragedy. We know their heroic work will make a difference.”*
