Washington Democrats Blow $150M on Healthcare for Illegal Immigrants—While Medicaid Providers Still Wait

Washington state is teetering on the edge of a $400 million deficit by 2028, but that didn’t stop Democratic lawmakersfrom greenlighting $150 million for a Medicaid-style program that offers free healthcare to illegal immigrants. Priorities!
The “Apple Health Expansion” program, cooked up through prior Democrat-led budgets, offers Medicaid-equivalent coverage to undocumented individuals over 19. It launched in June and blew past its cap in two days—with 13,000 signed up and 17,000 more already on the waiting list. All while actual Medicaid providers for legal residents are still grossly underpaid.
Rep. Joe Schmick (R-Colfax), the GOP’s top voice on the House Health Care & Wellness Committee, pointed out the obvious: “If we’re going to invest more money, we should have paid the providers to take care of the people here legally.” But Democrats weren’t interested.
Rep. My-Linh Thai (D-Bellevue) tried (unsuccessfully) to push a bill to expand the program further, allowing even more undocumented individuals to qualify and funding a statewide “outreach campaign” to get the word out. Thankfully, that effort fizzled—this session.
Even Health Committee Chair Dan Bronoske (D-Lakewood) doubled down, claiming it’s “good public policy” to insure illegal immigrants so they don’t flood emergency rooms. Meanwhile, the state’s budget outlook is spiraling despite $9 billion in new tax hikes passed under full Democratic control.
So while working Washingtonians are being taxed to the bone and healthcare providers are under-compensated, Democrats are busy figuring out how to spread the taxpayer-funded peanut butter even thinner—just not on you. Read more at Center Square.

Democrats in Full Panic Mode Over “Big Beautiful” Truth Bomb

Governor Bob Ferguson and Washington Democrats are in meltdown mode over Trump’s proposed “One Big Beautiful Bill,” claiming it will devastate Medicaid, Planned Parenthood, and rural hospitals. But Senate Minority Leader John Braun isn’t letting them rewrite history.
Braun recently pointed out the irony on the Jason Rantz Show: Democrats are crying about potential funding losses while conveniently ignoring the $13 billion in tax hikes they just rammed through Olympia, many of which hit working-class Washingtonians the hardest.
He calls out their fear tactics for what they are—a diversion from their own reckless policies, like hammering hospitals with higher taxes and gutting the healthcare system themselves. Braun also clarifies that Medicaid changes only affect those who shouldn’t have qualified in the first place and that the GOP included a $50 billion safety net specifically to protect rural hospitals.

“Come to a Town Hall!” — Says the Crowd That Sends Death Threats

The Washington State Standard wants you to think Rep. Dan Newhouse is hiding from the public. What they leave buried? A deranged man literally called Newhouse’s D.C. office and threatened to murder him and his staff—multiple times. The guy even said he had “plenty of time” to do it.
Turns out, Whaley—who made the threats from Tukwila—had a history of calling and leaving unhinged voicemails claiming the Second Amendment gave him the right to “form a militia” and “take out” the congressman. Law enforcement finally tracked him down and arrested him in Seattle. But hey, sure, let’s pretend the real scandal here is Newhouse not hosting a town hall in Yakima this month.
Speaker Mike Johnson and other GOP leaders have already warned that in-person events have become dangerous flashpoints, often hijacked by professional protestors. But Newhouse’s case goes well beyond hecklers. This was a credible, repeated assassination threat.
The left-wing press and their activist trolls demand “access” while fueling a toxic political climate where threats and intimidation are routine—and then act shocked when elected officials prioritize basic safety. Newhouse is still meeting constituents, planning tele-town halls, and serving his district—just not stupid enough to walk into an ambush for the sake of a photo op. Read more at MyNorthwest.com.

Swank Wants to Enforce the Law—Democrats Want to Sue Him for It

Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank has a crazy idea: enforce federal immigration law and help remove criminal illegal immigrants. Naturally, Washington Democrats are losing their minds.
Despite not currently cooperating with ICE, Swank says he’d like to—especially with the Trump administration ramping up enforcement, arresting over 66,000 illegal aliens, the vast majority of whom have criminal records. But thanks to sanctuary laws, county executive Ryan Mello (D) and Prosecuting Attorney Mary Robnett (D) are doing everything they can to stop him, including barring Swank from using his own independent attorney and threatening legal action.
It’s not just political games—it’s personal. Swank says Attorney General Nick Brown (D) is ready to go after individual deputies, ruin their careers, and even take their homes if they dare cooperate with ICE. The sheriff says he’d gladly take the heat himself, but he won’t let his deputies be destroyed by the state’s leftist machine.
Meanwhile, Mello and his Democrat allies on the County Council are more focused on feel-good slogans like being “safe and welcoming” than actually protecting public safety. Swank, a 33-year veteran of the Seattle Police Department, reminds them he was elected by the people of Pierce County—many of whom want him to help deport dangerous, violent illegal aliens.
Bottom line: Swank wants to uphold the law. Washington Democrats want to make him pay for it. Read more at Center Square.
