                                                         [ [link removed] ]TAKE ACTION
   Dear Friend,
As if parents, caregivers, students, and teachers in our country weren't
already dealing with enough, the U.S. Supreme Court has just given the
green light for the Trump administration to dismantle the U.S. Department
of Education, and they’re wasting NO time. [ [link removed] ] Harmful layoffs have
already started, and there’s a coordinated effort underway to
devastatingly gut the department’s core responsibilities.
[1]Congress must take action to protect the U.S. Department of Education,
   NOW!
This isn’t just about budgets or bureaucracy. It’s about denying the right
to a public education for all, stripping away protections for students,
rolling back civil rights enforcement, and weakening federal support for
   public education nationwide.
Democratic leaders in Congress are rightfully standing up for education
and have introduced a very helpful bill, the Department of Education
Protection Act (H.R. 433). This is a bill that would help stop any harmful
plans to decentralize, dismantle, or gut the department’s mission. It’s a
crucial shield against the extreme far-right agenda to erase federal
responsibility and support for equitable, high-quality education.
[ [link removed] ]Sign on to tell Congress to PASS the Department of Education Protection
   Act.
Here’s what’s at stake if we don’t act:
     * The Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights could be shut down,
cutting off protections against discrimination for students with
disabilities, LGBTQ+ youth, and students of color. [2]
     * Federal oversight of Title I funding, which helps low-income schools,
       could vanish.
     * Vital programs for teacher training, student mental health, and
       special education could disappear.
Education isn’t just a local issue. Every child in America deserves a fair
chance, no matter their zip code, race, ability, or background. That’s
what the Department of Education helps protect. We must not let it be
   erased.
This battle will require all of us, working together, to rise up and
protect education, the cornerstone of a multiracial democracy. Join us,
along with advocates, parents, and caregivers across the country just like
you, and demand that your members of Congress protect the Department of
Education and the rights of students nationwide.
It’s time to use our outside voices, TOGETHER. Our kids are counting on
   us.
   In fierce hope,
Beatriz, Ruth, Kristin, and the whole MomsRising.org & MamásConPoder Team
