John,
You may not know this, but back in 2016, I made $24,000 a year as a legislator in the state Senate.
With two teenagers and rent to pay, my husband and I struggled to make ends meet. Like many Arizonans, I did what I had to do to provide for my family, and I made the decision to drive for Uber to help pay the bills.
It was hard to struggle financially, and I never wanted my kids to worry. But when you're a parent, you do whatever is necessary to put food on the table and keep the lights on.
I’ll never forget those late nights at the kitchen table, frozen staring at a stack of bills. And I know that there are so many Arizonans who know exactly what that feels like, especially right now.
It’s one of the many reasons I was so proud to sign our Arizona Promise Budget into law earlier this month. It will help make childcare more affordable, provide 10 million free meals to working-class children, increase funds for K-12 education, and more. It’s a testament to what’s possible when we can break through partisanship and deliver common-sense solutions for families across our state.
I know what it’s like to do what you have to do for your family. As governor, I’ve always pledged to do the same for yours. That will never change.
But because of MAGA Republicans in Washington, over 365,000 Arizonans stand to lose their healthcare coverage. Countless families will suddenly lose their food assistance benefits.
It’s a disgrace. It’s a slap in the face to working families. And Andy Biggs, one of my GOP opponents, didn’t just vote for it — he said it doesn’t go far enough. We can’t let him get anywhere close to the Governor’s Office.
John, ultimately, I got into public service because our elected officials are supposed to fix the issues we’re facing, not exacerbate them.
Working families shouldn’t be forced into difficult financial decisions because an out-of-touch politician voted to give a tax break to billionaires. Arizonans deserve a leader who understands firsthand the value of every dollar and the dignity of hard work.
So as MAGA Republicans like Andy Biggs attack our progress, it’s only strengthening my commitment to deliver for the hardworking people of this state.
If you agree our state deserves a leader who delivers for Arizonans and not just the ultra-wealthy,please consider chipping in $10 to my campaign today. We’ve got a long fight ahead, and it’s going to take everyone to win this race and defend our values.
Thank you,
Katie
