Snake River salmon need your help: [link removed]
***********************************************************
Dear Friend,
The future of the Columbia and Snake Rivers, their salmon, and communities in the region are now coping with a devastating setback after President Trump pulled out of the historic Resilient Columbia Basin Agreement that had set us on the path to restoring the Columbia Basin, including planning for breaching four dams on the Lower Snake River. [link removed]
The agreement was a unique and unprecedented opportunity for the Northwest – with Tribal and state leadership at the forefront and support from the federal government – to solve the issues of dwindling salmon and steelhead populations while also supporting new clean energy projects and investing more than $1 billion in the region. The decision to renege on the plan comes after months of inaction from the federal government to fulfill commitments made in the agreement. Instead of supporting agencies’ implementation of the agreement, the Trump administration gutted federal funding for key programs and forced out untold numbers of experienced federal employees at agencies like National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
We must continue to work in partnership and use all available tools to prevent salmon extinction. Now, the ball is in Congress’ court. Send a letter to your Congressmembers today urging them to support healthy and abundant salmon in the Columbia and Snake Rivers. [link removed]
Sincerely,
Amanda Goodin
Senior Attorney
