Folks,
Early this morning, I voted hell no to Donald Trump’s dangerous rescissions package – which will cancel $9 billion in previously bipartisan-approved funding for public broadcasting and foreign aid.
Here’s why I did everything I could to stop this:
First and foremost, stripping federal dollars from public broadcasting and foreign aid is cruel and shortsighted. Quite frankly, it’s absurd to think that going after Sesame Street and NPR will do anything to offset our national debt.
And cutting off funding for critical programs worldwide that make us all safer and healthier in an interconnected globe? Now that’s just plain stupid.
But that’s not the only reason this piece of legislation is so dangerous – how Donald Trump has gone about clawing back this Congressionally approved funding is also deeply worrisome.
The notion that Trump and Congressional Republicans will pass one budget through Congress – then turn around and continue to cut critical programs… It makes a joke of our budget process.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have the numbers on our side to stop this chaos (and trust me, I tried to work with my Republican friends and get them to do the right thing) . Early this morning, Trump’s rescissions package passed the Senate.
That’s why it’s so important Democrats take back the Senate next year – but frankly, there’s no Democratic majority in the Senate without Virginia.
I need your help to hold on to this seat. Will you rush a $25 donation straight away to help me defend my seat and flip the Senate blue? [link removed]
