Checking in from Texas Democratic headquarters — we wanted to make sure you saw Kendall’s email (included below) about the upcoming special session.
It’s so important that everyone in Texas knows the truth: Greg Abbott is using the tragedy of the floods as political cover to change Texas district maps and the balance of our democracy for good. All because Donald Trump told him to.
That’s why we’re trying to close a critical funding gap: can you chip in to help us raise an additional $15,600 to fund our rapid response to Greg and his special session power grab?
Read more below from Kendall about why we must meet this moment head-on, together.

Greg Abbott is exploiting tragedy for political gain. Full stop.
Simply put: he is using Texans’ pain for his, President Trump’s, and the Texas GOP’s political gain by attempting to permanently change the playing field with a desperate, unprecedented mid-cycle redistricting aimed at stealing congressional seats that are slipping from Donald Trump’s grasp.
And this attempt to stack the deck and manipulate legislative power and action isn’t anything new…
FIRST: Texas Republicans cut programs that keep us safe and ignore the infrastructure needed to protect your family and community.
THEN: They use the disasters they create to grab more power or manipulate legislative action around their personal gain.
We’ve seen this pattern for the past THIRTY years. 3 - 0. Every crisis becomes an excuse for more Republican power grabs while working families pay higher taxes, lose healthcare, and watch their kids' schools get defunded.

I recently said on MSNBC that you should never look for good sense in Greg Abbott, and I stand by that.
I’m angry. If you’re as angry as I am right now, we need y’all. The TDP set a goal to raise an additional $15,600 by the end of the week to prepare for Greg’s special session — donate here. Even $5 (or whatever you can do) goes a long way.
It doesn’t have to be this way. We and all Texans deserve better. Together, we will stop power grabs like this and keep inching our state bluer, no matter how much it angers Abbott and Trump.
