Dear Angeleno,

The results of the annual homeless count were released today:
* The annual homeless count is down two years in a row for the first time ever in L.A.
* Street homelessness has declined 17.5% since I took office.

We are making lasting change in our efforts to confront the humanitarian crisis of homelessness because of our new approach.

For too long, the status quo had been to leave people on the street until permanent housing was completed, which resulted in Angelenos languishing on the street with no end in sight.

We rejected that approach and have focused on bringing people inside quickly while expediting the building of permanent housing.

This lasting change is possible because of our unprecedented efforts. On my first day in office, I declared a state of emergency to urgently get people off the streets.

We created Inside Safe immediately after. We have brought thousands of people inside and resolved more than 100 often entrenched and longstanding encampments in every council district in the city thus far.
Formerly unhoused Angeleno moves into an apartment.
We also confronted policy changes that are preventing people from being housed, are accelerating the building of more than 30,000 units of 100% affordable housing, are advancing innovative housing solutions through LA4LA and are keeping people from falling into homelessness in the first place through a research-proven, anti-eviction program led by the Mayor’s Fund.

These system-wide changes and this year’s results are made possible through the spirit of locking arms and working together like never before.
More than 30,000 units of 100% affordable housing are being accelerated.
This year's Point in Time Count results show:
* Homelessness is reported to have declined for two years in a row in L.A. for the first time.
* Street homelessness reduced by 17.5% since I took office in December of 2022. This is the largest decrease over two years since the Point in Time Count began in 2005.
* All types of makeshift shelters, tents, cars, vans and RVs declined for a second time in a row, down 13.5%.
* Permanent housing placements in the City of Los Angeles are at an all-time high.

My commitment to continue confronting this humanitarian crisis is stronger and more urgent than ever before.
