Hey, it’s Josh Stein, Governor of North Carolina.

I’m reaching out after Donald Trump and Republican politicians in Washington just passed a bill that slashes Medicaid by a trillion dollars and rips health care away from 17 million Americans. John, this is an outrage, plain and simple.

I believe that health care should be protected, not cut. John, Trump’s budget rips health care away from hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians and closes rural hospitals, takes food away from hungry children, and kills thousands of jobs in our booming clean energy economy. They’re doing all of this for the most insulting of reasons: to pay for trillions of tax breaks for the very wealthy.

At a time when so many families are struggling, it’s just plain wrong.

Here in North Carolina, we spent years fighting to expand Medicaid to give more of our neighbors access to the care they deserve and we’ve delivered real results: more than 660,000 North Carolinians now have access to health care thanks to Medicaid expansion.

That’s what all our legislators should be focused on – making sure more folks can afford care, not stripping it away.

But the cuts Republicans just passed will be devastating for my state and states across the country. Hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians could lose access to health care, and my state will lose billions of dollars of Medicaid funding – while trillions are added to the national debt.

Far-right politicians are counting on us to let them get away with this, but I’m determined to fight back.
