Republicans just gave the fossil fuel industry the handout of a lifetime at your expense. Let me explain:

As part of Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, the federal government is set to rapidly phase out tax credits for clean energy, bringing construction of wind and solar projects across the country to a screeching halt.

With fewer energy alternatives, that means our country will become even more dependent on fossil fuels, giving the industry the green light to raise costs even further.

This legislation might as well have been written by the fossil fuel industry itself. It doesn’t benefit consumers, who will be saddled with higher costs. And it sure as hell doesn’t benefit our kids, who will wonder why our nation doubled down on fossil fuels when faced with the existential threat of climate change.

Protecting our planet should not be a partisan issue. Lowering energy costs should not be a partisan issue. But because so many of my Republican colleagues are bought and paid for by the fossil fuel industry, it is.

So what can we do about it? Well, you probably know where this is heading, but we have to win elections. It’s that simple.

If Republicans believe there are no political consequences for jacking up costs and selling off our children’s future to the fossil fuel industry, they’ll continue to do it.

But if Democrats kick out dozens of these extremists next year, I promise you, they’ll think long and hard before doing it again.

That’s why I have to ask: Will you rush a donation to help me defend this must-win seat from the GOP? We can’t allow the fossil fuel industry to raise costs, pollute our planet, and control our government any longer.
