Dear Friend,

You’ve probably seen the heartbreaking news from Texas—devastating flash floods swept through the Hill Country over the July 4th weekend, destroying lives and leaving families in disarray. I don’t think any of us will forget the harrowing stories, the tragedy, and the heroic rescues we have witnessed this past week.

We also know that when people’s lives are turned upside down, animals suffer too. That’s where we come in—to provide a lifeline when communities are struggling in the aftermath of natural disasters.

By helping homeless animals, we are able to extend a neighborly helping hand and let these communities know they are not forgotten. Our Chicago community always answers the call when there is an emergency, and the ripples of kindness are felt across the country.

On Wednesday, July 16, we’re partnering with Austin Pets Alive! and Dog is My CoPilot to airlift more than two dozen dogs and cats from overwhelmed Texas shelters to safety here in Chicago—at no expense to the rescues. These pets were already in shelters before the flood hit or were given up by their owners—by rescuing them, we make room for Texas shelters to save animals who were lost or separated from their families. It’s a critical piece of disaster response, and we need your help to make it happen.

If you can, please sign up ([link removed]) to become a foster.

Our Medical Center is full—we’re caring for over 200 animals in that building alone and 542 pets across all our buildings and foster homes. We are rescuing more every day to alleviate overcrowding at Chicago Animal Care and Control. Taking in these Texas survivors is the right thing to do. And expanding our foster network is crucial to create space for our continued lifesaving.
Yes, I can FOSTER a pet in need. ([link removed])

If you can’t foster, you can still help. Please consider a donation to fund their critical medical care ([link removed]) and all of our disaster response efforts. As you know, our extraordinary Medical Center will provide everything needed for our pets to be healthy and ready for adoption.
DONATE to help this effort ([link removed])

For the past 20 years, PAWS has been dedicated to natural disaster rescue relief—from our first rescue missions for Hurricane Katrina to today. When disaster strikes, we say yes. Always yes.

But we never do it alone. Your compassion and commitment make it possible. Thank you for being there when pets need you most.

With gratitude,

Celene Mielcarek
