Dear Friends,

CAAT and SWI (Shadow World Investigations) hosted ENAAT (European Network Against Arms Trade) in London this June.

On Friday, 13th June, together with ICOP at SOAS, CAAT and SWI arranged an important discussion on the intersection between European rearmament and the genocide perpetrated in Palestine with Western weapons.

You can now watch the video recording of the event here.

The genocide in Palestine and the war in Yemen were and are a litmus test for humanity. Most European governments, including the UK, have undoubtedly failed the test.

At the same time, Europe is on a path of militarisation following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In this context, what are the impacts of European countries dismantling arms trade restrictions and the international rule of law?

How can European countries break out of the downward spiral of militarisation, increasing their exports of war weapons, and unaccountability for war crimes?

Speakers:

Jeremy Corbyn MP (Founder of the Peace and Justice Project)

Francesca Albanese (UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territories)

Ahmed Alnaouq (Palestinian Journalist, Director and Founder of “We are Not Numbers”)

Niamh Ni Bhriain (Coordinator of the Transnational Institute’s Peace and Pacification Programme)

Moderation:

Andrew Feinstein (Author, former South African MP & Independent MP Candidate for Holborn and St Pancras, ED of Shadow World Investigations)

Do take the time to watch this; it's a little over an hour, but packed with new information and insightful analysis, so well worth the time to take in the thoughts of this impressive panel as they address the problems of the arms trade and its corrupting influence.

And, please share it widely.
