John:

Hello from Capitol Hill.

After months of blood, sweat, and tears, President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill was signed into law on the White House lawn on the Fourth of July. B2 Bombers, escorted by state-of-the-art fighter jets, flew overhead while the National Anthem was sung, and hours later, fireworks lit up the night sky behind the Washington Monument. It was a victorious moment for the President, Speaker Johnson, Leader Thune, many more – accomplishing something that was doubted by many. In particular, the House Freedom Caucus succeeded in pulling this legislation in the direction of what their members wanted. The House is out of session this week, while the Senate is in to attend to some nominations, Fiscal Year ’26 Appropriations markups, and some preparatory work for the rescissions package that it is reported to be taking a vote on next week. Ever indefatigable, Speaker Johnson said
([link removed]) that he plans on doing not one, but two additional reconciliation bills.

While the nation’s bureaucracy begins to digest and put into motion the One Big Beautiful Bill, Texas has been grappling with multiple tragedies. In the early morning hours of the Fourth of July, tremendous and unexpected rainfall blanketed the hill country region of Texas, swelling the Guadalupe River into a flash flood. Along the course of the Guadalupe lie the town of Kerrville and the Christian girls camp Camp Mystic (amongst other towns and summer camps). The water level rapidly rose well over 20 feet in the dead of night, ultimately leading to the deaths of over 100 people, including numerous children, with dozens still missing across multiple counties. Needless to say, this is a heartbreaking natural disaster that struck some of the most innocent people on Earth – keep them in your prayers. The state and federal government made disaster declarations, many officials visited the area, and President Trump plans to tour the site of the flooding sometime this week.

In Alvarado, Texas, a gang of ANTIFA-affiliated terrorists ambushed ([link removed]) officers at an ICE detention facility on Independence Day, resulting in injuries to one officer and the arrest of the terrorists. The gang shot off fireworks and created a disturbance to draw out officers whom they intended to kill with gunfire – thankfully, they did not achieve their goal. What’s more – another shooter attacked ([link removed]) a border patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, wounding a McAllen cop before being killed by responding officers. The Trump administration’s response was forceful: "The Department has zero tolerance for assaults on federal officers or property and will bring the full weight of the law against those responsible…" said ([link removed]) Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. Whether or not
these events are coordinated has yet to be determined, but the administration is undeterred in its deportation efforts: in California, federal authorities are sweeping ([link removed]) Los Angeles for illegal immigrant criminals.
