Party on the Pitch

There was a fantastic festival atmosphere at ‘Party On The Pitch’ at Kenfig Hill R.F.C. this month.

Congratulations to the Community Council for organising another wonderful family event!

It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying.

Meeting with Robert McAlpine LTD

It was great to meet with senior members of Sir Robert McAlpine, who are managing the main civil, structural, and building works for the new Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) at our steelworks, having been appointed by Tata Steel UK in January.

Excellent to hear and understand more about the jobs and opportunities that will be available under the construction of the new EAF, the key milestones and progress to date, and to be briefed on Sir Robert McAlpine’s strong commitment to prioritising local workers and supply chains across all aspects of this vast and complex project, which remains on track for the EAF to be commissioning at the end of 2027 / early 2028.

Floating Offshore Wind

Floating Offshore Wind is on its way to the Celtic Sea - with Port Talbot named a port of choice by developers.

I'm proud to have campaigned for this in Parliament for 3 years - in debates, meetings with Ministers and in the media. It shows what we can achieve together.

I'll continue to fight hard to make sure Aberafan Maesteg benefits from Floating Offshore Wind in the decades to come through thousands of new jobs, cleaner energy, and lower household bills.

A huge vote of confidence in Wales and our people.

Port Talbot Panthers

It was great to be at the Port Talbot Panthers presentation evening.

The Panthers are a mixed ability rugby team that are an absolutely amazing example of inclusive sport at its best. And what’s more they were off to Spain, to take part in the mixed ability rugby world cup.

I wished them all the very best of luck!

Ferry Fest

It was wonderful to have been invited to Baglan Bakery this month.

The family run local bakery has just received a grant for the Tata Steel Resilience Fund to help revamp the shop, allow them to expand their range in the bakery and allow them to expand their catering capabilities too.

This is fantastic news for a much loved local business in Baglan!

Baglan Primary Forces Fun Day

It was a pleasure to attend Baglan Primary School’s Forces Fun Day and see all of the fantastic activities the schools and other local organisations had worked together to provide for the children.

There was lots of physical activity, with the Bulldogs, Ospreys, FORCES FITNESS, IMPACT wellbeing and others running a range of games and team building exercises - there was even yoga!

South Wales Miner's Museum

It was absolutely brilliant to visit South Wales Miners' Museum this month.

It was lovely to be shown around the museum and hear about the working conditions in the mines here in South Wales, as well as see the on-site blacksmith and the fantastic Glyndwr steam train which was built by William Thomas. The steam train is a working train and I am told school children thoroughly enjoy watching it travel along the tracks.

The museum is a perfect way to learn about the history of mining in South Wales and I fully recommend everyone pays the museum a visit. School visits are welcomed by the museum too.

I fully recommend a visit!

Great Get Together

What a wonderful reception in memory of my dear friend and colleague Jo Cox for the Great Get Together this month.

9 years on from Jo's tragic murder, her legacy is stronger than ever.

Kim Leadbeater, her brilliant sister, organises this annual reception on the week of Jo's birthday. I listened to other MPs reflect on their memories of Jo's hard work including on tackling loneliness, supporting vulnerable refugees and bringing people together.

We as Parliamentarians often disagree. Here, MPs from all across the political spectrum were united in memory of Jo - and her words.

"We have far more in common than that which divides us."
