Dear John,
President Trump is once again threatening some of our closest trading
partners with tariffs. Let me break it down for you and what it means for
Americans.
In new letters today, he announced new tariff rates on countries like
Japan and South Korea, which will take effect on August 1st. These trading
partners are some of our top sources for auto parts, semiconductors,
pharmaceuticals, and machinery—things we don’t have the capability to make
in the U.S. at the same price or scale.
We know who pays these taxes. It’s not foreign countries; it’s American
consumers. Families are going to see their costs go up, at a time when
many are already struggling to make ends meet.
Let’s also remember that this is only the latest in Trump’s chaotic tariff
announcements. Throughout this year, he’s been announcing, then pausing,
then reimplementing, then delaying. This makes it so much more difficult
for companies to do business here—and every single one of us suffers for
that, too.
As Democrats, we need our leaders to be fierce economic communicators, who
understand the pain families are facing and have the ability to message
effectively about the harm Trump is doing to our entire economy. That’s
why I’m running for governor.

my campaign today, so I can keep communicating with Americans across the
political spectrum about how Donald Trump is hurting all of us?
