Hi John,
Right now, millions of immigrants are being denied access to basic health care. That includes essential workers, DACA recipients, and lawful permanent residents who are locked out of programs like Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
This is a cruel injustice. It puts lives at risk. And it is a policy failure that Congress must correct.
That is why I just reintroduced the HEAL for Immigrant Families Act with Senator Cory Booker and Congresswoman Nanette Barragán. This bill would finally eliminate the arbitrary and discriminatory barriers that keep immigrant families from getting the care they need.
Here’s what the HEAL Act would do:
- End the five-year waiting period for Medicaid and CHIP
- Open access to ACA coverage and subsidies for immigrants
- Advance health equity and save lives
No one should be denied health care because of where they were born. But that is exactly what’s happening under our current laws.
If you agree that health care is a human right for everyone, I am asking you to take action now. We need to show Congress there is strong grassroots support for the HEAL Act.

This fight is personal to me. I came to this country alone at 16. I have spent my life organizing for immigrant justice and pushing for a health care system that puts people first. And I will never stop fighting for justice for everyone in this country.
Together we can make sure no one is left behind.
In solidarity,
Pramila
