The disastrous budget reconciliation bill has passed in Congress. I’ve been thinking hard about how we got here—and where we go next.

Here’s what I know for sure:

1️⃣ This bill is appalling.

Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans have rammed through what may be the most destructive legislation in modern American history. With one stroke, they’re gutting the Inflation Reduction Act, pouring more pollution into our air and water, supercharging the climate crisis, and driving up costs for working families. And that’s on top of the many other cruel and inexcusable things this bill does.

2️⃣ We will make the GOP and Big Oil answer for it.

In this fight, you and millions of others stepped up. At least 7 million calls were made to Congress—helping to further massive public backlash. And we won’t let up. Every lawmaker who voted for this brutal bill will be held to account, now and at the ballot box.

3️⃣ We still have powerful ways to protect our collective future.

How? By unleashing bold state action. For decades, states have led the way—cutting pollution, slashing costs, and proving that climate action improves daily life.

If you’ve been in this movement long enough, you know: State climate leadership has never been a backup plan. It’s always been one of the strongest, fastest paths we have to transformational change.

Evergreen has deep relationships and proven wins in key states, where we’re building momentum in places with the most to gain from robust, community-focused climate action.

Evergreen has deep roots and real victories in the states where this matters most—and we’re accelerating the work right now. Together with in-state partners, we’re fighting for:
