Okay, the week that was on the “So, Does It Matter?” Substack!
A week ago Friday brought incredible news for parents across America. The U.S. Supreme Court delivered a decisive 6-3 victory in Mahmoud v. Taylor, strengthened your First Amendment rights as a parent. This landmark decision confirms what many of us have long believed: you can protect your child from public school lessons that promote alternative lifestyle advocacy when those lessons directly conflict with your deeply held religious beliefs. You need to act now to establish your rights, and this post (which has had over 100,000 views) it s “Tool Kit” with everything in it you need to do so. If you are not a parent with young kids in school, send it to someone who is
On Friday, Independence Day, President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill. This bill pretty much contained all of the President’s legislative agenda, all in one piece of legislation. My take is that the bill was both he best of times and the worst of times. The cartoon below is what I am talking about. There are a bunch of great things in the bill — making the 2017 tax cuts permanent (many were set to expire this year) and there are some new tax cuts — there a lot of cuts — and more. That said, most people who study such things say that this bill will increase our annual deficits and national debt. Anyways, I lay it out here… Hint: We HAVE to pivot now to more spending cuts… a LOT of them.
Governor Newsom likes to waffle between “I control the legislature” and “I cannot control the legislature” — and last week he demonstrating the former. He insisted and conditioned the adoption of the (terrible) State Budget on also passing a bill that put narrow but significant reforms into how the regulations in the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Any reform of that terrible law is welcome. But of course it was narrow, and in it was horrific language empowering the state’s trades unions. Yup, you have to pay union-level wages to be eligible for the CEQA exemption for your project. Read all about it…
We had to issue a FACT CHECK piece this week after Newsom and legislative Democrats literally spun a lie — that the newly adopted State Budget was slashing government-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants. NOT TRUE. I explain how it isn’t the care, and also take the main stream media to task for being a complicit part of the lie. Check it out…
We all know that massive, criminal fraud took place with California’s unemployment insurance system - costing taxpayers tens of billions of dollars. Gavin Newsom wants to talk about anything BUT this. In this explainer, I walk you through what happened, so you can be conversant, in this Issue Tool Box… Oh yes, read on to see WHO PAYS for this…
This ICYMI highlights less than half of what ran on my Substack this week alone. If you have total FOMO you can go to the main page, and from there pick out whatever you want to read, going all of the way back to our launch!

Now I have saved the best for last. You may have already seen this. But watching it would be the best ten minute investment of your day. Trust me. The White House has partnered with Hillsdale University to produce a series of videos over the next year, highlighting our nation’s birth and heritage, leading into the big 250th birthday party for our nation next July 4th. A very important video is out — and my friend Dr. Larry Aarn, the President of Hillsdale College, welcomes guides you through great lesson on the “why” of the Declaration of Independence, and the “what” of it. I strongly encourage you to watch it! (I fondly remember walking precincts for Larry for Congress back in 1992 — and while Larry did not win, it was clear that God had much bigger plans for him!)
