John — Donald Trump promised his supporters that reviving the coal industry would bring them prosperity. Instead, he's sentencing miners to death for profit.
Black lung disease is making a deadly comeback in America’s coal mines. Modern miners are getting diagnosed in their 40s instead of their 60s, at rates we haven't seen in 50 years. One in ten working miners nationwide is now estimated to have black lung.
It’s easy to point the finger and say this is “what coal country voted for.” But the truth is, Donald Trump made big promises to voters, and now, we’re watching him fail the very communities that put their trust in him.
Did you know his administration slashed hundreds of jobs at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health — the agency where scientists and researchers are working to end black lung?
As a cancer survivor, this is personal to me. I had access to incredible doctors and effective treatments made possible by decades of medical research. I don’t take that for granted. Not for a second. But Trump is attacking the very science that saves lives.
So this isn’t just about coal country. This is about all of us.
Coal is one of the biggest drivers of climate change, releasing more carbon dioxide than any other fossil fuel. It puts entire communities at risk of asthma, heart disease, and cancer. And Trump’s coal revival is accelerating a public health crisis that touches every corner of this country.
Just look at what he’s done in the past few months alone:
- Trump hijacked emergency powers to force dirty coal plants to stay open even when they were scheduled to shut down.
- He’s gutted clean air rules that protect communities from mercury, arsenic, and other deadly chemicals.
- He’s fast-tracked coal mining on public lands while cutting environmental protections.
- He’s attacked states like California and New Mexico for trying to transition to clean energy.
- And he’s just tucked a massive tax break to coal companies into his so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.”
This is Donald Trump’s America: sacrifice workers and poison communities so fossil fuel billionaires can get richer. But we refuse to back down. My team is gathering signatures from our most active supporters in PA and around the country to prove that Trump’s toxic coal agenda is overwhelmingly unpopular. Will you sign the petition to demand Congress step up and stop Trump’s toxic coal agenda?
My team will be sending signatures to Congress next week, so sign on now to make your voice heard, John.
Let’s keep the pressure going.
